Members of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of moderate House Democrats, are cautioning the party's leadership against disregarding the caucus' pay-as-you-go rule.

In a letter sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) on Wednesday, the group noted the rule was passed with overwhelming Democratic support at the beginning of the 116th Congress.

Blue Dogs also called on Democratic leaders to "only advance legislation that is fully paid for." Pay-as-you-go calls for any increases in the deficit to be paid for.

The national headlines may make it appear that the only ideas are those of my colleagues on the far left. But that's not reality. The fact is that moderates delivered the House majority in 2018. More than three-quarters of the Democrats who flipped seats in November are now members of the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Democrat Coalition or both — the moderate wing of the party.

The Blue Dog Coalition on Tuesday elected three new co-chairs — all current freshmen — to lead the group of two dozen fiscally conservative Democrats in the next Congress.

Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy will serve as the administration co-chair, Arizona Rep. Tom O'Halleran as the policy co-chair and California Rep. Lou Correa as the communications co-chair.

Rural communities that were left behind during the post-Recession recovery are fed up with lip service from politicians in Washington.

In the 2016 campaign, rural Americans were promised a better life: There would be more jobs, better health care, and most of all, that they would have a voice in Washington. Two years after the 2016 election, these hardworking Americans still have not seen results, and unfortunately, they are now facing additional challenges.

If Congress wants to find out the best strategy to ensure long-term success on tax reform, it must look to its history. The last time Congress passed a comprehensive, bipartisan overhaul of our tax system was over three decades ago. The 1986 tax reform drive was successful because it was an open, bipartisan effort.

A group of conservative House Democrats is embracing some elements of a GOP plan to cut taxes, potentially creating an opening for Republicans to win bipartisan support.

The Blue Dog coalition, which has 18 members in the House, said it's open to lowering business taxes, the first significant sign of a crack in Democratic opposition to the GOP approach. Their position was included in a plan released Wednesday outlining the group's stance on taxes.
