Ross statement on resignation of Blue Dog Rep. Gabby Giffords

January 22, 2012
Today, Congressman Mike Ross (D-AR) issued the following statement after Blue Dog Representative Gabby Giffords announced her decision to step down from Congress in order to focus on her recovery.

"The strength and determination Gabby has demonstrated throughout her recovery is an inspiration to all of us. She represents the very best this country has to offer, always working to bring people together during a time marred by bitter partisanship and political extremes.

"Gabby and her staff have been tireless advocates for the people of Arizona's Eighth Congressional District, fighting day in and day out to ensure the people have a strong and effective voice in Washington. The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, of which Gabby is a member, recognizes Gabby's staff for their hard work in Gabby's absence, and we respect Gabby's decision to leave Congress in order to focus on her recovery.

"The Blue Dogs will continue to work in the same spirit of bipartisanship and compassion that Gabby demonstrates every day. She and her family remain in our hearts and prayers as she focuses on her recovery."

The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition was formed in 1995 with the goal of representing the center of the House of Representatives and appealing to the mainstream values of the American public. The Blue Dogs are dedicated to a core set of beliefs that transcend partisan politics, including a deep commitment to the financial stability and national security of the United States.
