Ross statement on President Obama's State of the Union Address
January 24, 2012
Tonight, Congressman Mike Ross (D-AR), Co-Chair of the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, released the following statement in response to President Obama's State of the Union Address:
"The Blue Dogs share the President's commitment to putting Americans back to work. The American people expect their representatives in Congress to put politics aside and come together to pass bipartisan legislation that will drive job creation.
"The Blue Dogs also remain committed to working vigorously on both sides of the aisle to address our nation's deficit and debt in a meaningful way. From the very beginning, we have been committed to going big to reduce the deficit, and our resolve to act was only strengthened by the failure of the ‘Super Committee' last year. It's time that members of Congress and the President come together to address our serious long-term fiscal issues that undermine the fiscal health and national security of this great country.
"We cannot afford to wait until after the next election to address our national debt or our jobs crisis. It's time for Republicans and Democrats to stop putting party over country and get to work on behalf of the American people."
The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition was formed in 1995 with the goal of representing the center of the House of Representatives and appealing to the mainstream values of the American public. The Blue Dogs are dedicated to a core set of beliefs that transcend partisan politics, including a deep commitment to the financial stability and national security of the United States.
