Matheson: “Restoring fiscal discipline to the federal government is a responsibility of every member of Congress, not just the majority party”

Today, Representative Jim Matheson (D-UT), Blue Dog Co-Chair for Communications, released the following statement after Republicans in the House offered a motion to recommit that would add billions of dollars to the deficit.

"For all that we hear from our colleagues across the aisle about deficit reduction and fiscal responsibility, it is unbelievable that they would put forward a proposal that would add billions of dollars to the deficit.

"This is the type of irresponsible fiscal policy that marked years of unchecked deficit spending after pay-as-you-go laws were allowed to expire. Restoring fiscal discipline to the federal government is a responsibility of every member of Congress, not just the majority party. We all have a responsibility to pay for our priorities, and the Blue Dogs will continue to work to see that statutory PAYGO once again has the force of law."
