Blue Dog Statement on President Obama’s State of the Union Address

February 12, 2013

Tonight, Congressman Kurt Schrader (D-Ore.), Co-Chair of the fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, released the following statement in response to President Obama's State of the Union Address:

"The Blue Dogs share the President's commitment to taking a balanced approach to reducing our federal debt and deficits and stopping the ill-fated short term spending measures that are crippling our nation's fiscal health and national security.

"As longtime vocal supporters of going big on our nation's federal deficits, the Blue Dogs will continue to advocate for a bold, bipartisan deficit reduction and jobs package that puts everything on the table. We must go big in order to create economic certainty and growth, embolden our businesses to expand and hire and put America back on a path of financial sustainability.

"We look forward to working with our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to solve our ongoing national debt and jobs crisis."
