Blue Dog Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON— Blue Dog Coalition Communications Co-Chair Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., issued the following statement regarding President Joe Biden's first State of the Union address:

"We commend the President for proposing concrete steps to unify our deeply divided nation and to overcome the historic challenges that confront us at home and abroad. We applaud the President for his clarion call to America and all freedom-loving nations to rise to the defense of Ukraine and to punish Russia for its unprovoked act of aggression. Blue Dogs believe deeply that, in the global competition between democracy and autocracy, American leadership is critical to ensuring that democracy prevails.

"We also share President Biden's view that elected leaders must work in a bipartisan way to combat inflation, streamline supply chains, and reduce our national debt. American families and small businesses are relying on us to set partisanship aside and get things done. Blue Dogs look forward to working with the President to pass commonsense bills that improve the lives of our constituents."
