Following Blue Dog Coalition Effort, House Takes Action on Fentanyl
Today, the House passed S.331, the HALT Fentanyl Act, following the Blue Dog Coalition urging Speaker Mike Johnson to take swift action on the Senate bill.
This legislation will permanently reschedule fentanyl-related substances to Schedule I substances under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970; while maintaining access to FDA-approved uses of fentanyl.
“Across the nation, the deadly flow of fentanyl is tearing families apart and hollowing out our communities. Between 2018 and 2022, young Americans’ deaths attributable to fentanyl almost quadrupled. That heartbreak and rage is personal for us. As Americans, we cannot lose this fight. We must continue to empower law enforcement to fight the flow of this deadly substance,” said the Blue Dog Coalition. “We have long advocated for commonsense policies that put communities first and bolster our national security. In that spirit, we are proud to have done our part to get this legislation to the House floor and on its way to the President's desk.”
