Blue Dog Coalition Endorses 3% Deficit to GDP Ratio Resolution
WASHINGTON D.C. — The Blue Dog Coalition issued the following statement endorsing H.Res.981, a bipartisan resolution to set a fiscal goal to reduce the federal budget deficit to 3% or less of the gross domestic product (GDP).
“No family or small business would be able to survive if they spent their hard-earned cash the way Congress spends taxpayer dollars. As government borrowing grows, Americans' pocketbooks get squeezed, making it more difficult to buy groceries, build a home, start a small business, and pursue the life they want to live. It’s past time to get our fiscal house in order,” said the Blue Dog Coalition. “By pursuing aggressive yet realistic targets, we can spend less on interest payments and focus more on restoring economic agency to American families. It’s time for Congress to come together in a bipartisan manner and put an end to irresponsible budgeting.”
Blue Dog Co-Chairs Jared Golden (ME-02) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) are original cosponsors of this legislation.
