Chandler responds to executive order, urges agencies to conduct internal review of outdated and burdensome regulations
July 11, 2011
Today Congressman Ben Chandler, Chair of the Blue Dog Task Force on Oversight and Regulatory Review, released the following statement after the President issued an executive order again imploring all independent federal agencies to review their existing regulations "to determine whether any such regulations should be modified, streamlined, expanded, or repealed so as to make the agency's regulatory program more effective or less burdensome in achieving the regulatory objectives."
"Government bureaucracy in this country is out of control," Congressman Chandler said. "Overly burdensome regulations slow economic growth, kill jobs, and waste precious government resources. I am pleased the President took these steps to make government more efficient."
The Blue Dogs have repeatedly stated their belief that overly burdensome and outdated regulations slow economic growth and impede job creation and on June 15th sent letters to each of 12 major independent agencies requesting that they comply with the President's existing executive order.

The Task Force on Oversight and Regulatory Review is responsible for taking a look at the nearly 8,000 regulations issued annually by the federal government and for analyzing these new rules to ensure Congressional intent is appropriately followed. Under the leadership of Chair Ben Chandler (KY-06) and Vice-Chair Tim Holden (PA-17), the Task Force monitors implementation efforts, identifies overly burdensome regulations and seeks to modify rules problematic to job creation.
